Premium Wood Edge Banding for Professional Woodworking

Finishing the edges of plywood or MDF requires high-quality materials to ensure a durable and seamless look. At Oakwood Veneer, we provide real wood edge banding that mirrors the grain and texture of our full-sized veneer sheets. Our selection includes over 50 species, from domestic favorites like White Oak and Walnut Edge Banding to exotic options like Zebrawood and Bubinga.

Types of Edge Banding Tape Available

To accommodate different application methods, we offer our edging in several formats:

  • Pre-Glued Edge Banding: Features a high-quality hot-melt adhesive on the back. This is easily applied using a standard household iron or a professional edge banding heat blower.

  • Fleece-Backed (Non-Glued): This version is reinforced with a thin fabric backing for added flexibility and strength. It is ideal for use with automatic edgebander machines or manual application using contact cement.

  • Master Rolls: For high-volume shops, we offer bulk rolls to ensure color consistency across large-scale cabinetry or furniture projects.

How to Choose the Right Width and Species

Choosing the right wood edge banding involves more than just matching the species. We recommend selecting a width that is at least 1/8" wider than the thickness of your panel. This allows for slight misalignment during application and ensures a clean, flush trim.

  • For 3/4" Panels: Use 7/8" or 1" edge banding.

  • Custom Projects: We offer various widths to ensure you have the coverage needed for oversized architectural panels.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can your wood edge banding be stained? Yes. Because our edge banding is made from real wood, it accepts stains, oils, and clear coats exactly like the lumber or veneer you are using. We recommend a light sanding with fine-grit sandpaper before applying your finish.

What is the best way to trim the excess? After the adhesive has cooled and set, you can use a dedicated edge banding trimmer, a sharp chisel, or a flush-trim router bit. Always trim in the direction of the grain to prevent tear-out.

Why choose wood veneer tape over PVC? While PVC is durable, only real wood veneer tape provides the authentic warmth, grain continuity, and high-end finish required for quality furniture and cabinetry. It adds significant value and a "solid wood" appearance to engineered wood products.
