Maple

Maple (Acer saccharum) veneer, in all its variations, is stunning.   Coming from the same tree that gives us maple syrup, Maple veneer is one of the most popular species in the United States. With over 20 different types and cuts, Oakwood Veneer showcases the versatility of maple and all of its figures and shapes.  Maple wood is cream white with a reddish tinge.  Maple wood veneer shows a fine, uniform texture with generally straight grain, but, depending on the cut or stresses to the tree variations can occur such as Birdseye, Tiger, Flame, Curly, Wavy, Rippled or Fiddleback grain. These unusual figures are often selected for specialty custom artisan furniture.

Birdseye Maple Wood Veneer Premium has one of the most stunning grain patterns. An incredibly rare, naturally occurring pattern that scientists are still trying to find the source of.  While pricey, this wood can give a piece stand-out quality. Woodworkers love Birdseye Maple and will continue to choose this veneer for years to come.

Another showstopper, Wormy Maple Rustic Veneer is caused by an infestation of the ambrosia beetle and will exhibit a streaked appearance. It is a very pretty, rustic veneer that can give your project a unique look.  Wormy Maple is also known as Spalted Maple, Ambrosia, and Ghost Maple.

Highly Figured Curly Maple Wood Veneer is a great veneer for a piece that can stand out and be a showstopper. Curly Maple veneer is cream to light reddish brown and highly figured with scattered curls and/or blisters. The curl/figure is sometimes referred to as "cross fire." The difference between Curly Maple and Fiddleback Maple is how it is cut. Curly comes from flat cuts while Fiddleback is quartersawn.

Maple veneer takes well to stains and finishes, making it the ideal choice when matching an existing wood color. Flat Cut is also known as Plain Sliced or Crown Cut.

Maple wood is known to be a softer wood and can shrink or expand as much as 7% of its dimensional size, due to weather conditions, moisture, and humidity. This is why it is very important to understand the correct installation procedures for Maple Wood Veneer - please see our acclimation [https://oakwoodveneer.com/application/wood-veneer-acclimation.html] page or ask one of our veneer experts for more information.
