Bode’s Custom Cabinets fabricated, installed, and finished the seamless curved Makore veneer panels covering all visible vertical surfaces on this five-story floating steel spiral staircase. The upward curving horizontal surfaces --- above and below the veneer panels --- are solid Makore hardwood, CNC’d and steam warped to match the spiral. The entire staircase is supported by cables surrounding the internal and external dimensions of the structure; and a wall of windows follows up the full height. The finished product is the architectural centerpiece of a multi-million dollar addition to the MacOdrum Library building at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada.
