This student desk is constructed with durable Quarter Sawn Red Oak. The side and rear panels are constructed of Quarter Sawn Red Oak Veneer. Designer and woodworker Todd Plentovich is a devout hobbyist. He needed a desk for a small space in a guest bedroom and designed this similarly to an "Amish Student Desk." It has a large pencil drawer and two file drawers for hanging files.
The wood veneer adds beauty to the furniture and helps reduce the weight. Since red oak darkens with time, Plentovich sealed the desk with shellac and coated with poly. The woodworking process took about three weekends and the finishing process can be completed in three or four warm dry days.
