Resurfacing Kitchen Cabinets
Oct 28th 2015
Question:
Which thickness and grade of veneer is best to resurface my kitchen cabinets? I would like to use a maple veneer flat cut with a spice stain for finishing.
Also what is the best method of bonding since I don’t have a vaccum press.
Answer:
Many people like using a self-stick veneer (3M PSA – pressure-sensitive adhesive). This would be our 10-mil paperback with the self-stick adhesive back. Make certain that the substrate (the panel you’re applying the veneer to) is clean and smooth – but do not sand it, as sanding makes the substrate surface rough. There is no need to apply any adhesive on the cabinet. Simply measure, cut and apply the self-stick wood veneer to the cabinet surface. There is no need for a vacuum press for this procedure.
