Rosewood Veneer

Rosewood has always been a top choice for furniture and musical instruments.  Oakwood Veneer has many types of Rosewood Veneers.

East Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) comes from India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. It is a golden brown to a deep purplish brown with darker brown streaks.  East Indian Rosewood has a narrow grain with a medium texture.  Due to Rosewood’s tonal nature (tonal wood is any wood that is used for woodwind or acoustic stringed instruments because of the way the wood resonates) East Indian Rosewood veneer is often used for acoustic guitars.  East Indian Rosewood veneer’s beautiful color and grain makes it an easy choice for furniture pieces.  Other names include Indian Rosewood, Sonokeling.  East Indian Rosewood is available in sizes 4’x8’ and 4’x10’ with either 10 mil or 22.2 mil (Bubble Free) backing.

African Rosewood (Guibourtia spp.) comes from Equatorial Africa.  African Rosewood is a beautiful wood.  While not a true member of the Rosewood Family (Dalbergia spp.), African Rosewood looks incredibly similar to other Rosewoods.   With colors ranging from a pinkish red to a darker reddish brown with darker purple or black streaks, African Rosewood veneer has a combination of straight and interlocking grains.  Depending on the cut, African Rosewood can show a variety of figures including pommele, flamed, waterfall, quilted, or mottled.  Other names for African Rosewood are Bubinga, Essingang, Kevasingo, and Buvenga.  There is a lot of demand for African Rosewood as the highly figured wood makes lovely furniture and musical instruments.   African Rosewood veneer is available in a flat cut or quarter cut.  It comes in sizes 4’x8’ and 4’x10’ with a choice of 10 mil and 22.2 mil (Bubble Free) backing.

South American Rosewood (Machaerium scleroxylon) has colors that range from reddish/orange to a dark violet/brown with contrasting darker black streaks. It has a straight grain with a fine even texture and a naturally high luster.  South American Rosewood is also not a true Rosewood since it is not a member of the Dalbergia genus.  However, it is very closely related as seen by color, grain, texture, and even the same sensitizing compounds found in Rosewoods.  It is a great choice for musical instruments, cabinetry, small specialty wood objects, and furniture. Other names for South American Rosewood are Pau Ferro, Morado, and Santos Rosewood.  South American Rosewood comes in standard or premium quality, various sizes from 4’x6’, 4’x7’, 4’x8’, 4’x10,’ and 4’x12’, with 10 mil or 22.2 mill (Bubble Free) backer choices.

When seeking a uniform grained look, Oakwood Veneer’s selection of Echo Wood and Italian veneers can provide that precise look sheet after sheet.  Readily available and very sustainable, these reconstituted veneers are a beautiful choice when executing a specific design style.  Reconstituted veneer is sustainable.  It has no defects, such as knots or discolorations, making it easier to use. Reconstituted veneer has a consistent grain and finish, making it the ideal choice for areas that require uniformity.  Italian and Echo Wood veneers are an affordable way to get an exotic wood look to your project.  Italian and Echo Wood veneers come in 4’x8’ and 4’x10’ sizes and can either have 22.2 mil (bubble free) or Peel and Stick backing.
