Inlaying wood veneer

Questions:

• Are Oakwood Veneer’s veneering products suitable for inlay work on small furniture items (not flooring)?
• If possible, how difficult is it?
• What types of inlay are possible? Stringing? Parquetry? Marquetry?
• Is the application process different from the standard procedure?

Answer:

Flexible veneer can be used effectively for inlay and finer types of inlay such as marquetry, parquetry , etc. The only caution is that flexible veneers are typically much thinner. Sanding must be done carefully and consistent thickness is critical to avoid sand throughs.

Because marquetry and parquetry are more traditional crafts, most purists would rather use raw veneer than the flexible paperbacks. Raw veneers are thicker so they allow for a greater margin of error.
