Rookie with a question about drums
Oct 28th 2015
Question:
Gentleman,
I sometimes make drum sets with a hand stained finish. I would like to try an exotic veneer finish. The cylindrical shells are raw maple. The sizes are (height x width):
- 5 1/2″ x 14″
- 8″ x 12″
- 14″ x 14″
- 16″ x 20″
- 2 hoops at 2″ x 20″
How much material is needed?
I think it is the total circumference of all the cylinders multiplied by Pi ( 2.39 ) Am i even in the ball park?

Comment by Marty:
You are mostly correct, but pi is 3.14.
That will help you make the right circumference for your drums.
Answer:
Marty is correct. Pi is 3.14 (about the only thing I remember from high school algebra). Anyway, what you want to do is certainly not out of the question. We’ve had many custom drum builders use our veneer. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in this niche.
