Veneer for scale models
Oct 28th 2015
Question:
I’m looking for a veneer that’s has very light, very tight or no grain, for use on a 1/350 scale model ship. I’m modelling the Titanic. She had decks of “yellow pine” that was bleached so it was very light in color.
I’ve seen there are actually Pine veneers available, but I’m afraid the grain would make it look “off” – it certianly wouldn’t be to scale!
So I need something that would clearly look like wood but not have a heavy grain. Any suggestions? Somebody mentioned maple or pearwood …?
Answer:
Another possibility is using Quartered Anigre which has a very even color with little grain or better yet Holly or basswood which exhibit almost no definable grain lines
