Ebony is one of the most luxurious wood species in the world, prized for its extreme density and dramatic aesthetic. At Oakwood Veneer, we offer a specialized range of natural Macassar Ebony and engineered solutions, all processed and inspected in our Troy, Michigan facility. Whether your project requires the organic rarity of a specific cut or the industrial consistency of a reconstituted sheet, we provide the inventory and expertise to ensure a professional result.
Because natural Macassar Ebony features such high-contrast heartwood and grain, the way the wood is cut significantly impacts the final look of your project. We offer three distinct natural varieties:
Macassar Ebony - Quartered: This cut produces a linear, vertical grain pattern with the species' iconic dark stripes running parallel to the length of the sheet. It is the premier choice for modern, sleek architectural panels and cabinetry.
Macassar Ebony - Flat Cut: Also known as "plain sliced," this cut showcases more of the wood's natural "cathedral" patterns and organic loops. It provides a more traditional, rich character that highlights the tree's unique growth history.
Quartered Sequenced (Up to 3 Sheets): For projects requiring grain continuity across multiple panels, we offer small-batch sequences. This allows you to "book-match" or slip-match up to three sheets for a seamless visual flow in custom furniture or small cabinetry runs.
In addition to our natural flitches, we offer Reconstituted Ebony (often referred to as our Italian series). This engineered veneer is designed for maximum consistency across unlimited sheets, making it the industry standard for large-scale commercial installations where repeatable grain patterns are a requirement.
As a direct manufacturer, we maintain total control over the moisture content and backing quality of our Ebony veneers. Our 10-mil, 22.2-mil (Bubble-Free), and 3M™ Peel & Stick (PSA) backers are pressed to your specific species selection to ensure a permanent, stable bond even on this exceptionally dense wood.
