Domestic, Exotic, & Burl Flexible Wood Veneer
Ash wood is one of the most versatile hardwoods in North America. Highly prized for its strength, flexibility, and prominent grain pattern, it is a staple for mid-century style furniture and architectural design.
Ash is remarkably resilient and lightweight. Its durability is often cited in technical wood specs using the Janka scale, which measures the force required to embed a steel ball into the timber. Despite its strength, it remains one of the most flexible species available, taking stains exceptionally well and often serving as a popular alternative to Oak.
White Ash (Fraxinus americana): Native to the eastern United States and Canada, this is a fast-growing species. The speed of growth creates substantial sapwood, typically beige to light brown with a straight, open grain. When stained, White Ash resembles Oak but without the telltale rays.
Black Ash (Fraxinus nigra): Also native to North America, Black Ash is slightly darker in color and often marketed as Brown Ash. These trees prefer colder climates and grow further north than White Ash. It is the preferred species for the Emerald Ash Borer, a destructive beetle currently impacting Ash availability.
European Ash (Fraxinus excelsior): Growing throughout mainland Europe and Southwest Asia, its heartwood is light brown while the sapwood is wide and beige. It is generally lighter in tone than its American counterpart.
Olive Ash: Not a separate species, but the heartwood of the European Ash. It showcases both dark and light colors, providing a beautiful two-tone look.
Tamo Ash (Japanese Ash): A highly figured wood from Japan, Korea, Russia, and China. Known for its curling grain, Tamo showcases a unique “peanut” effect when rotary cut, similar to quilted Maple.
We offer a wide range of Ash veneer to fit any project requirement. Ash wood veneer is available in flat cut, rotary cut, and quarter cut.
